Anoeta Stadium, Football stadium in San Sebastián, Spain
Anoeta Stadium is a football arena in Donostia-San Sebastián with room for more than 39,000 spectators. The venue shows contemporary architectural forms with large covered stands and a compact arrangement of seating rows close to the pitch.
The venue opened in late July 1993 and replaced the former Atotxa Stadium as the home ground of Real Sociedad. Between 2017 and 2019 extensive reconstruction works removed the athletics track and reshaped the stands.
Supporters use the Aitor Zabaleta section as the focal point for chants and vocal support throughout each match. This area generates the loudest encouragement for the team and the atmosphere is shaped by communal singing.
The venue is accessible via several bus lines and Metro Donostialdea with lines E2 and E5. On match days an early arrival is advisable due to increased traffic in the surrounding area.
The renovation brought spectator stands much closer to the playing surface than before. This transformation changed the experience for visitors fundamentally and created a tighter connection to action on the grass.
