Costa Teguise, human settlement
Costa Teguise is a seaside town on the east coast of Lanzarote with several beaches of soft sand and a waterfront promenade stretching about five kilometers. Small shops, cafes, and restaurants line the streets, connected by simple paths that lead easily down to the beaches and the sea.
The town developed in the twentieth century as a resort near the older town of Teguise. Artist Cesar Manrique greatly influenced its design, creating public spaces that look natural and blend with the landscape rather than standing out against it.
Costa Teguise takes its name from the nearby historic town of Teguise. The place comes alive in the evenings when locals and visitors gather at outdoor bars and restaurants, sitting together to chat and enjoy the warm weather while the sea breeze carries the smell of food and salt air.
The town is most enjoyable during sunny days and feels less inviting when weather turns bad. Affordable apartments and lodging options are scattered throughout, many restaurants serve different cuisines, and it is simple to arrange day trips to other parts of Lanzarote or nearby islands.
Costa Teguise hosts the PWA World Windsurfing Tour every June, a major international competition that takes advantage of the strong winds and clear waters perfect for the sport. The bay in front of town continues to attract windsurfers and kitesurfers seeking reliable conditions for their rides across the water.
