Alcántara Bridge, Roman bridge in Alcántara, Spain

The six-arched stone structure spans 194 meters across the Tagus River with a height of 45 meters and features massive granite blocks.

Constructed between 104 and 106 AD under Emperor Trajan, twelve municipalities of ancient Lusitania contributed to finance this engineering project.

The name derives from the Arabic word al-Qantarah, meaning 'the arch', reflecting the cultural exchanges between Roman and Moorish civilizations in Spain.

Located at coordinates 39.7225, -6.8925, the bridge continues to serve road traffic while offering views of the surrounding Extremadura landscape.

The structure contains an inscription on the central pier archway recording the names of municipalities that funded its construction during Roman times.
