Valdeorras, Administrative comarca in northeastern Ourense, Spain
Valdeorras is a comarca in northeastern Ourense divided by the Sil River into three distinct areas. Mountain ranges border the region to the north and south, with Peña Trevinca forming the highest point in Galicia.
Romans established their presence by constructing Via XVIII, a major road that left behind several stone bridges. These ancient structures still stand throughout the region as evidence of Roman engineering.
The nine municipalities preserve traditional underground wine cellars carved from clay with special chimneys called refugallo that maintain proper temperatures for winemaking. Locals continue using these spaces as their ancestors did centuries ago.
The region connects to major transportation networks through the Palencia-La Coruña railway line which has operated since 1883. Visitors can arrive by passenger train and explore different areas from there.
The Serra da Enciña da Lastra Natural Park contains archaeological sites with megalithic structures and rock art. Ancient petroglyphs carved into stone in Valdegodos, Petín, and San Esteban reveal prehistoric settlement of the area.
