Jurassic Museum of Asturias

The Jurassic Museum of Asturias is housed in a building on the San Telmo coastal plateau, designed in the shape of a three-toed dinosaur footprint. The museum displays fossils and geological materials spanning multiple time periods from Earth's history.

The museum opened in 2004 to preserve and display the numerous fossil discoveries found along the Asturian coast. The region became known for its rich deposits of Mesozoic-era fossils.

The museum displays the three main periods of the Mesozoic era through fossils and geological preparations that explain how life changed over millions of years. Visitors can observe how different creatures were across each period.

The museum can be explored on different routes depending on which time periods interest visitors most. Allow at least two to three hours to see all the exhibition areas without rushing through.

The basement holds hundreds of tons of fossils that remain uncatalogued and await study. This hidden collection shows that research at the site continues far beyond what is on display.
