Playa de la Griega, Natural beach in Colunga, Spain
Playa de la Griega is a wide sandy beach on the Asturian coast, where the Libardón River meets the sea and tall cliffs frame the sand on both sides. The beach sits inside a natural bay open to the Atlantic.
Fossilized footprints from sauropod dinosaurs were discovered embedded in the rock formations along the shoreline, dating back to the Cretaceous period. They are among the best-preserved dinosaur tracks found anywhere in Spain.
The beach holds deep roots in local fishing traditions that shape daily life and the regional food culture. Visitors experience these maritime customs directly through the people and practices they encounter here.
The beach has showers, restrooms, and a nearby parking area, making a full day visit easy to manage. Lifeguards are present during summer, but outside that season the beach is quieter and has fewer services available.
At low tide, flat rock platforms are exposed along the shore where the dinosaur tracks become visible at eye level, no museum required. The prints are pressed directly into the stone and open to anyone walking the beach.
