Pico Pienzo rises to 1162 meters and is the highest point within the Protected Landscape of Sierra del Sueve. The summit sits within a mountain range featuring pine forests, alpine meadows, and open vistas across the massif.
The mountain shows traces of ancient settlements and traditional livestock routes used for centuries by local communities. These pathways still shape the terrain and connect different valleys across the region.
The area is home to Asturcón horses, a native breed that has roamed these mountains for thousands of years. You can spot these animals grazing on the mountain pastures, and their presence shapes the landscape.
Hikers can start their journey from the El Fitu viewpoint at around 600 meters elevation and follow marked trails through pine forests and mountain meadows. The route is well-marked on the mountains, and the climbing is moderate for experienced walkers.
The summit sits just a few kilometers from the coast and offers views on clear days that stretch from Torrecerredo peak to the shoreline between Llanes and Gijón. This proximity to the sea makes the mountain top an unexpected vantage point overlooking the water.
