Teruel Airport, Industrial airport in Caudé, Spain.
Teruel Airport is an aircraft storage and maintenance facility near Teruel. The installation has a massive parking platform spanning 120 hectares with hangars that can accommodate large aircraft such as the Airbus A380.
The facility opened in February 2013 on the grounds of a former military air base that served Spain from 1937 until 2001. Converting this historical airfield into a modern aircraft storage center marked a turning point for the region.
The airport functions as an economic catalyst for the Aragon region by creating employment opportunities in aviation maintenance and aerospace industries.
The site sits on an elevated plateau with a dry climate and around 250 sunny days per year, creating optimal conditions for aircraft storage and maintenance. The flat terrain and stable weather patterns make it possible to store many aircraft simultaneously in good condition.
During the 2020 pandemic, more than 100 grounded commercial aircraft were stored here by airlines, proving the facility's enormous capacity. This period showed how critical such locations are for the global aviation industry when facing unexpected disruptions.
