Ledesma

Ledesma is a municipality in Salamanca Province spread across about 140 square kilometers along the Tormes River. It sits roughly 35 kilometers from Salamanca city at an elevation of around 730 meters.

The region was known as Bletisa during Roman times and still contains remains of ancient fortifications. Some of these wall sections date back to the 7th century before Christ and show the long history of settlement here.

The town displays Gothic and Renaissance palaces from the 15th and 16th centuries that shape its character. These buildings reflect the prosperity the region enjoyed during those periods.

The local heritage is best explored through the BLETISA History Centre, which offers two main walking routes for visitors. The Urban Route and the Puente Mocho Route lead to the most significant historical sites in the area.

Beneath the Plaza de la Fortaleza lie underground chambers and vaulted passages that were originally intended for a palace complex. These hidden rooms, including old powder magazines, tell a story of architectural plans that were never completed.
