Santuario de Nuestra Señora de las Nieves

The sanctuary stands on a hillside with its main chapel rising higher than the nave, featuring a semicircular vault decorated with Virgin Mary themes.

The church construction began in 1517 after relocating a terracotta statue of Virgin Mary from a nearby cave where early conquistadors placed it.

The sanctuary holds extensive collections of Flemish and Baroque images, paintings, sculptures, goldsmith works, porcelain, and marble pieces in its museum.

Visitors can access both the main church area and the adjacent sacred art museum, which displays costumes and jewels associated with the Virgin statue.

Every five years since 1680, the Descent of the Virgin festival includes a procession where the statue travels from the sanctuary to the capital.
