Museo Picasso Málaga, Art museum in central Málaga, Spain
The Museo Picasso Málaga is an art museum in central Málaga displaying paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and graphic works inside a 16th-century palace building. Exhibition rooms spread across multiple floors and use natural light through Andalusian-style courtyards.
The museum opened in 2003 and arose from a donation by the Ruiz-Picasso family, who provided more than 150 works from their private collection. The Palacio de Buenavista had previously been home to various noble families for centuries and underwent extensive restoration for its new use.
The building combines a Renaissance palace with contemporary architecture through modern extensions that weave indoor and outdoor spaces together. The collection shows works from different creative phases of the artist, from early studies to late experiments with color and form.
The museum sits in the historic center and is within walking distance from most old town landmarks. Rooms are air-conditioned and offer seating in the halls, plus an interior courtyard for resting between rounds.
Beneath the palace floors lie archaeological remains of Phoenician, Roman, and Moorish settlements made visible through glass panels in the floor. These excavations show foundations, ceramic fragments, and wall remnants from over two thousand years of city history.
