Medina de Pomar, Medieval municipality in Las Merindades region, Province of Burgos, Spain.

Medina de Pomar is a medieval town in the Las Merindades region that sits on elevated terrain and is surrounded by two defensive walls with five entrance gates from different eras. The streets follow an ancient layout that reflects the various periods of its development.

The town developed during the medieval period as a fortified settlement of the Merindades and reached its peak importance under the Condestables de Castilla family. The fortress built in the 14th century served as the seat of local power.

The Monastery of Santa Clara shapes the spiritual identity of the town, with nuns living according to traditional rules and maintaining their presence in daily community life. The monastery's role connects residents to centuries of religious continuity.

The town sits in the green mountains of the region and offers many hiking trails through forests and natural landscapes all around. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended when exploring the area and paths.

The Church of the Holy Cross merges religious architecture with military defense by incorporating its towers directly into the city wall. This solution shows how residents combined spiritual space with strategic protection.
