Museo Histórico de las Merindades

The Merindades Historical Museum occupies a Gothic fortress with two square towers connected by a central building, featuring multiple exhibition halls across four floors.

Construction of the castle began in 1380 under the Velasco family, who governed the region throughout the medieval period as High Constables of Castile.

The museum presents archaeological discoveries from the Paleolithic era to the Baroque period, including a third-century Roman fountain and the Enrique II document.

The museum opens Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00 and 16:30 to 19:00, with Sunday hours from 10:00 to 14:00, offering guided tours twice daily.

From the fourth-floor terrace, visitors can examine the surrounding Merindades region while learning about local governance systems through a central scale model.
