Villaviciosa de Odón, Municipality in western Community of Madrid, Spain.
Villaviciosa de Odón is an administrative district in the western part of the Community of Madrid, about 25 kilometers from the capital's city center. The town sits in gently rolling countryside and combines residential areas with green spaces and several educational institutions.
The town developed from the medieval settlement of Calatalifa, which existed in the 10th century as a multireligious community and was later abandoned in the 13th century. In the 16th century the area experienced a refounding and grew into an agricultural center under the rule of noble families.
The Castillo de Villaviciosa, a Renaissance castle from the 16th century, stands in the town center and shows a mix of medieval fortress and noble residence. Visitors can see the facade and surrounding park, where locals meet for walks.
The center is located at Plaza de la Constitución, where the town hall and several cafes provide a good starting point for exploring. Most facilities are within walking distance, and free parking is available in the outer districts.
The Air Force Museum preserves over 150 aircraft and shows the development of Spanish military aviation from the early 20th century to today. Some examples stand outdoors and can be viewed up close, which technology enthusiasts particularly appreciate.
