Palace of Infante don Luis

The Palace of Infante Don Luis is a three-story structure built with red brick and granite details, displaying multiple ornamental pediments across its rectangular form. The complex includes decorated interior spaces, a restored chapel, surrounding gardens, and various outbuildings that complete the estate.

Construction took place between 1763 and 1765 under the direction of Infante Luis of Spain, who was the brother of King Charles III. The building incorporated an earlier structure on the site and transformed it into a major residential complex.

The residence sheltered the Italian composer Luigi Boccherini, who composed significant musical works during his time here under royal patronage. His presence connected this remote estate to the broader European musical world of the period.

The site opens to visitors and offers guided tours through the interior rooms and gardens. It is helpful to check hours beforehand and consider joining a guided visit to fully appreciate the different areas and their original purposes.

During the Spanish Civil War, the building sustained heavy damage and lost numerous art collections before being declared a National Monument in 1974. This difficult period left its mark on the structure and accounts for the careful restoration work visible throughout the rooms today.
