Velòdrom d'Horta, Sports complex in Horta-Guinardó district, Barcelona, Spain.
Velòdrom d'Horta is a sports complex with a 250-meter wooden track surrounded by stands accommodating around 3200 spectators indoors. The facility also includes two artificial grass football fields and a separate basketball pavilion.
The facility opened in 1984 for the World Track Cycling Championships and became a turning point for sports in the city. The innovative design by architects Bonell and Rius earned recognition through the FAD Architecture Award.
The name refers to its neighborhood and Barcelona's long-standing cycling tradition. Today, school children and recreational athletes use the track to learn cycling skills and improve their abilities.
The facility is easily reached by public transport and welcomes both beginners and experienced cyclists. Different areas operate at different times depending on the scheduled activities.
About 50 specialized fixed-gear bicycles are available on-site, a rare feature for this type of facility. These bikes allow beginners to experience an unusual riding style on the professional track.
