Campo de Cartagena

Campo de Cartagena is a flat agricultural region in Murcia that stretches from the Sierra de Carrascoy mountains to the Mediterranean coast. Eight municipalities make up this area, which combines farmland with coastal zones.

This region served as an important trading and military center in the Mediterranean over 3,000 years ago. Archaeological sites scattered throughout reveal layers of human settlement and exchange across many centuries.

Windmills scattered across the landscape show how farming was done in earlier times. They remain part of the visual character and connect visitors to agricultural life as it once was.

Roads connect the eight municipalities throughout the area, making it easy to move between different towns and parts of the region. Cartagena works as the main hub for services and transportation, which helps with navigation.

Protected lands cover about 18,500 hectares here, including the Marine Reserve of Cabo de Palos and several natural parks with distinct ecosystems. These conservation areas preserve rare habitats that visitors often pass by without noticing.
