Font de Canaletes, Cast iron fountain at La Rambla upper section, Spain.
The Font de Canaletes is a cast iron fountain at the upper end of La Rambla with a round base and four water basins. A tall column crowns the structure with four decorative lanterns at its summit.
The current fountain was designed by Pere Falqués and installed in 1892, replacing older structures that traced back to the medieval city walls. The site had long served as a water source for this densely populated neighborhood.
The fountain has become a gathering spot where supporters of FC Barcelona celebrate major team victories. This tradition took root in the 1930s when a sports newspaper operated nearby and fans started marking their wins here.
The fountain sits at the beginning of La Rambla near Plaza Catalunya and is easily reached via metro lines 1 and 3 at the Catalunya station. Access is free and the site remains open to visitors throughout the year.
Local tradition holds that visitors who drink from the fountain's water taps will return to Barcelona someday. This belief has made it a regular stop for tourists seeking to honor the custom.
