Puente del Paso Honroso

The Puente del Paso Honroso stretches across the Orbigo River with twenty different arch-shaped spans, making it one of the longest bridges on the pilgrimage route.

Originally constructed in the thirteenth century, this bridge replaced a Roman structure that connected Asturica to Tarraco for transporting gold from Las Médulas mines.

The bridge gained fame in 1434 when knight Suero de Quiñones organized a month-long tournament, challenging passing knights to demonstrate his devotion to Leonor de Tovar.

The structure connects both sides of Hospital de Órbigo and serves as an essential crossing point for pilgrims following the Way of Saint James toward Santiago de Compostela.

The bridge features irregular arch spans of different sizes, with smaller arches integrated into one of its central sections, reflecting multiple construction periods.
