Can Masdeu

The four-floor stone building contains 24 rooms and stands within 15 hectares of forest land at the edge of Collserola National Park.

The structure, completed in the 17th century on an ancient Roman site, functioned as a leper hospital until its abandonment in 1948.

The social center hosts workshops, assemblies, concerts, and film screenings that bring together local residents and environmental movements.

The community maintains 35 garden plots through ecological practices, producing fruits and vegetables without industrial methods or chemical substances.

In 2002, residents prevented an eviction through non-violent resistance, leading authorities to withdraw plans and allowing the community to establish permanently.
