Oriol

Orisol rises to 1,131 meters in the Basque Mountains and overlooks the Aramaio valley and surrounding natural landscapes. The mountain sits entirely within Urkiola Natural Park and features beech forests and mountain pastures that change color with the seasons.

The mountain forms part of the ancient Cordillera Cantabrica mountain range, which developed over millions of years and shapes the northern Spanish landscape. This geological formation originated through tectonic processes and continues to influence the terrain and water drainage patterns in the region.

The mountain sits in the heart of Basque Country and serves as a natural gathering point for hikers from surrounding communities. Local people regard it as part of their familiar landscape and use the summit routes as part of their outdoor traditions.

The ascent follows a moderate trail starting from Kurtzeta pass and is easy to follow thanks to clear trail markings throughout the route. Spring through fall offers the best hiking conditions, with stable weather and dry paths that make the walk safer and more comfortable.

The summit preserves traces of ancient shepherd paths in its surroundings that have been used by grazing herds for generations. These trails form part of a traditional migration practice that remains visible today only upon close observation.
