Valderejo Natural Park

Parque Natural de Valderejo is a protected area spanning 3,496 hectares with forests that blend Atlantic and Mediterranean plant types across various ecological zones. Limestone cliffs form the dramatic framework of the landscape, creating distinct habitats throughout the park.

The park was established to protect the natural forests and rock formations of the region. Over time, abandoned settlements like Villamardones and Ribera became part of the protected area, marking shifts in how people inhabited the valley.

The scattered stone houses and old farming paths in the valley tell the story of how people once lived and worked in this landscape. These structures remain as reminders of the rural traditions that shaped the region for centuries.

The park can be explored via nine marked walking routes suited to different fitness levels. An information center in Lalastra provides guidance on route selection and helps visitors plan their time in the reserve.

Large numbers of griffon vultures make their nests in the limestone cliffs, relying on the rocky outcrops for breeding. Watching these massive birds circle above the valley is a sight many visitors come specifically to witness.
