City of Culture of Galicia, Cultural building complex on monte Gaiás, Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
The complex extends across monte Gaiás with six interconnected buildings featuring curved lines that reflect the mountainous terrain, spreading over several levels of the hillside while organic forms replicate the surrounding Galician landscape topography.
Construction began after Peter Eisenman won an international competition, with work spanning over a decade as the cultural center opened its first sections to the public while other portions were completed gradually in the following years.
The center maintains exhibition spaces, theaters, and performance halls that display arts and traditions from Galicia while fostering connections with European and Latin American cultural communities through rotating programs and public events.
Visitors access the complex through multiple entrances connected by interior streets, with guided tours offered most weekdays in several languages and opening hours varying according to events and exhibitions taking place across different buildings.
The external facade contains thousands of individually shaped window panels, with each glass piece following a distinct design created through computer-aided modeling that enhances the wavelike appearance of the entire complex.
