Basilica of Santa María, Portugalete

The Basilica of Santa María is a church blending Gothic and Renaissance styles with three interior naves, buttresses for structural support, and an octagonal central apse. The building contains multiple side chapels and a Parish Museum housed within the sacristy, displaying religious objects and artwork.

Construction of the present structure began in 1480, replacing an earlier wooden building from 1322. The basilica has undergone significant restoration work, particularly during the 1990s, which shaped its current appearance.
