Castell de Xivert

Castell de Xivert is a medieval fortress built on a hilltop about 389 meters high, overlooking the Mediterranean landscape. The site consists of defensive walls, several towers, and an enclosed fortified area that shows its strategic importance.

The fortress was built in the 12th century under Muslim rule as a military stronghold in this strategically important location. It changed hands later during the Christian Reconquista and shaped the region's landscape long after.

The castle displays architectural traces from multiple cultures that settled here over the centuries and left their building marks behind. When you look closely at the walls, you can see how different periods left their fingerprints in stone.

Access to the fortress grounds is through hiking paths that lead up from the valley below. It is wise to bring sturdy footwear and plenty of water, especially on warmer days.
