Plaza del Obispo, Málaga

Plaza del Obispo is a square in central Málaga featuring a marble fountain from 1785 at its center, complete with two basins and a decorative pine cone finial. The fountain serves as the visual anchor of the surrounding space and is flanked by historic buildings.

The square originated during the Moorish period and acquired its current form when the cathedral facade was completed in the 18th century. The surrounding structures developed gradually over centuries, reflecting different phases of urban growth.

The square served as a filming location for The Bridge of San Luis Rey, where it represented colonial Peru on screen. Visitors can observe how this historic setting was adapted for the cinema.

The square is located at the intersection of Molina Lario and Salinas streets, making it easy to find within central Málaga. Many restaurants and seating areas surround the space, offering comfortable places to rest and observe your surroundings.

During renovations in the 1990s, workers discovered remains of ancient Roman and Byzantine walls buried beneath the square. These findings reveal the site's deep layers of history spanning multiple civilizations.
