Castle of Benissanó

The Castle of Benissanó is a medieval fortress with a rectangular layout, four corner towers, and crenellated walls protecting its perimeter. The interior contains Gothic windows and multiple rooms that reflect the layout of a fortified residence.

This fortress was built in 1467 on the remains of an Arab settlement called Benixanut. It served for centuries as both a military stronghold and a residence for the Cavanilles family.

The main hall displays ceramic tiles from the 15th century that connect this place to Valencia's artistic heritage. These handcrafted works shape the interior spaces and reveal how art was woven into daily castle life.

Access is best on Sunday during regular opening hours, though guided tours are available on other days in multiple languages. It is worth checking ahead if you want to join a tour to make the most of your visit.

The ground floor preserves original medieval structures including a parade ground, prison cell, and an old kitchen. These functional spaces show how daily operations of a fortified residence were organized.
