Dehesas de Sierra Morena Biosphere Reserve, Biosphere reserve in Huelva, Seville, and Córdoba provinces, Spain.
This biosphere reserve covers a large area of Mediterranean woodland and pastures dominated by cork oaks and holm oaks with diverse shrub growth. The landscape spans across three provinces and can be accessed through three connected natural parks.
UNESCO designated this area as a biosphere reserve in 2002 to protect its traditional farming methods and natural resources. This recognition helped preserve a working landscape where farming and nature continue to depend on each other.
Local people here practice cork harvesting and raise Iberian pigs in traditional ways that shape the landscape. You can see this heritage reflected in regional food specialties and in how families continue these crafts across generations.
Access is available through three natural parks that together form the reserve, each offering different areas to explore. The spring and autumn seasons provide pleasant weather and good chances to observe wildlife across the terrain.
This reserve is one of the most important refuges for endangered species including the Iberian lynx and Spanish imperial eagle. These rare animals find the forest and open land they need to survive in this protected landscape.
