Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Consolación

Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Consolación, Gothic-Mudéjar church in Cazalla de la Sierra, Spain.

Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Consolación is a church in Cazalla de la Sierra combining stone masonry and brick construction, featuring a single nave divided into five sections with a square main chapel. The building is crowned by a tower made of ashlar stone blocks, topped with a pyramidal spire and positioned against the Gospel wall.

Construction took place in three distinct phases: a Mudéjar church in the 14th-15th centuries, a Renaissance temple beginning in 1538, and major renovations during the 18th century. These overlapping building campaigns reflect how the structure evolved through different artistic periods.

The interior displays Renaissance pillars carved with apostle figures that echo the style found in Seville Cathedral's main sacristy, linking this village church to the region's artistic traditions. Visitors can recognize how local craftspeople followed the same sculptural language as their urban counterparts.

The church opens to visitors Monday through Friday from 11:00 to 13:00, with weekend visits limited to worship service hours. Visiting on a weekday morning allows you to explore the interior at your own pace.

The tower consists of two separate stone cores built with ashlar blocks and topped by a pyramidal spire. This dual-core construction is an unusual structural detail that makes the tower visually distinctive from the rest of the building.
