Aloia Mountain, Mountain summit in Tui, Spain
Aloia Mountain is a summit near Tui that rises 629 meters (2,065 ft) above sea level, with views of the Louro and Miño rivers from its granite slopes. The area contains marked walking trails that lead to several observation points and recreation zones.
The mountain was designated as a protected natural area by the Spanish government in 1935, becoming the first such designation in Galicia. This recognition helped establish conservation practices in the region.
The mountain holds traces of ancient settlement visible in archaeological remains scattered across its slopes that visitors encounter while walking. These relics tell the story of people who lived here and shaped the land long ago.
The mountain can be explored via multiple walking trails that lead to different viewpoints across the area. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and come prepared for changing weather conditions.
The mountain was originally bare and was transformed through an afforestation project by engineer Rafael Areses, who planted cypress, fir, and cedar trees. These trees now shape the mountain's appearance and show the results of an early conservation experiment.
