Covetes dels Moros

Covetes dels Moros is a system of over 50 artificial cave openings carved into a steep rock face in multiple rows. Each small chamber once had doors and locking systems, and many still show old metal rings and attachment marks today.

The caves likely formed during Visigothic or Arab periods, when different populations carved the rock for their needs. Archaeological finds in the surrounding area point to burials and long-term occupation.

The caves' name reflects Moorish associations, though their use spanned centuries under different groups who adapted the spaces. Visitors can observe the tight chambers and traces of old doorways that reveal how people once inhabited and worked here.

Modern metal stairs today make it easy to reach the caves, replacing the difficult climb once needed. The location is walkable to reach, but visitors should expect uneven ground and steep ascents.

The chambers are remarkably small and regular, with rectangular layouts suggesting they were built for specific purposes like storage or short-term use. This design consistency across all levels is unusual for ancient excavation sites and shows planned construction.
