Palau Ramon Montaner, Modernist palace in Dreta de l'Eixample, Spain

Palau Ramon Montaner is a modernist palace in Barcelona's Dreta de l'Eixample district featuring ornamental motifs, marble mosaics, carved wooden panels, and a central staircase topped by a stained-glass botanical ceiling. The building contains two separate luxury residences, each with its own reception areas and distinctive decorative elements.

Construction of the palace began in 1889 under Josep Domènech i Estapà, with architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner taking charge and completing the work in 1893. The project emerged from the Montaner i Simón publishing family's desire to build a new residence following Barcelona's 1888 Universal Exhibition.

The palace showcases Catalan modernist architecture with Italian influences, featuring works by sculptor Eusebi Arnau and stained-glass artist Antoni Rigalt throughout its spaces. The interior details reflect the craft and artistic skill that defined creative work in Barcelona during that era.

The palace is located at Carrer de Mallorca 278 in Barcelona and currently serves as Spanish Government headquarters. Visits are possible on select dates, so checking availability beforehand helps plan your trip to see the interior.

The building houses two entirely independent luxury residences commissioned by the publishing family Montaner i Simón as separate homes for different family members. This dual structure creates distinct living spaces with separate entrances and individual decorative schemes.
