Can Feliz, Residential house in Mallorca, Spain
Can Feliz is a residential dwelling in the mountains near S'Horta composed of several interconnected blocks built from local sandstone with large bay windows. The spaces serve living, dining, and sleeping functions, and a swimming pool sits on the grounds.
Danish architect Jørn Utzon designed and built Can Feliz in 1994 as his second residence on Mallorca, roughly two decades after completing his first project on the island. The house emerged from Utzon's ongoing interest in Mallorcan landscape and design principles.
The house displays traditional Mallorcan building methods and uses materials that have been employed on the island for generations. Local sandstone and craftsmanship connect it to the region's construction heritage.
The property sits on a mountainside and offers views of the surrounding countryside from different rooms throughout. Visiting requires patience when moving through the various interconnected levels and areas.
The house features a split-level living room with a workspace positioned on the upper floor, where wooden shelves and a large work table are placed. This arrangement allowed the resident to work while remaining connected to the surrounding landscape.
