Carmen Thyssen Museum, Art museum in central Málaga, Spain.

The Carmen Thyssen Museum spans 7,147 square meters with 5,185 square meters dedicated to exhibition spaces displaying Spanish paintings from the 19th century.

The museum opened in 2011 within the renovated Palacio de Villalón, a sixteenth-century building that revealed Roman-era artifacts during its 2005 excavations.

The permanent collection features artworks from Spanish painters including Francisco de Zurbarán's Saint Marina and Marià Fortuny's Bullfight Wounded Picador.

The museum provides guided tours, educational programs, a café serving regional dishes, and a shop offering art books and exhibition-related souvenirs.

Archaeological excavations beneath the museum uncovered a Roman suburban villa with a monumental fountain decorated with wall paintings and mosaics.

What to do in Malaga: the most beautiful places to visit between culture, history, and the seaside

Between the Mediterranean and the Andalusian hills, Malaga blends southern warmth with a thousand-year history. Birthplace of Picasso, it combines Moorish fortresses, Renaissance churches, orange-scented alleys, and avant-garde museums. The Alcazaba overlooks the city from its Moorish walls, the Roman theater recalls its origins, and the Cathedral of the Incarnation connects the centuries. Along the port, the Pompidou Center, contemporary galleries, and subtropical gardens revitalize Andalusian modernity. The stroll is slow, between white light and warm shadows, from the Atarazanas market to the views of Gibralfaro. Malaga is no longer just a seaside stopover: it is a city to explore, to see, and to feel.
