Castell de Banyeres de Mariola

Castell de Banyeres de Mariola is a castle ruin located at 830 meters elevation with a polygonal layout and a prominent square tower. The structure dominates the landscape from its elevated position and provides wide views across the surrounding terrain.

Almohad forces built this fortress in the early 13th century to control the region. King James I conquered it in 1248 and changed the political structure of the territory.

Inside, the Museu Fester displays exhibitions about local festivities and traditions of the region. The space serves as a center for understanding the customs and celebrations that shape community life.

Access to the fortress is via a walking trail that starts from below and gradually gains elevation. It is advisable to wear sturdy footwear and bring plenty of water, as the climb can be demanding.

On clear days, the tower offers views across four different Spanish provinces: Albacete, Murcia, Alicante, and Valencia. This unusual vantage point makes the site one of the few places where so many distinct regions are visible at once.
