Church of San Juan Bautista

The Church of San Juan Bautista is a Baroque building in Arganda del Rey with three naves arranged in the shape of a Latin cross. A prominent lantern tower crowns the central section and distinctly shapes the exterior of the structure.

Construction took place between 1709 and 1714, documenting early 18th-century Baroque architecture in this region. In 1781 additional elements were added to the tower spire, adapting the building to newer stylistic trends.

The church is named after Saint John the Baptist, reflecting the religious importance this saint held in the local community. The interior displays Baroque ornamentation and altar furnishings that continue to represent the artistic heritage of that period.

The building is easily reached via the main streets of Arganda and remains regularly accessible for services and visits. Visitors should note that opening times may vary depending on religious services and events.

The tower spire displays Madrid-style slate craftsmanship featuring a ball, weathercock, and cross as decorative elements. This refined ornamentation sets it apart in its detailed execution from many neighboring church towers.
