El Far, Limestone mountain summit in Susqueda, Spain
El Far is a limestone summit in the Guilleries Massif that rises to about 1,124 meters above sea level with steep rock faces. The slopes are covered with Mediterranean vegetation adapted to the elevation and exposed conditions.
The summit served as a strategic observation point from medieval times onwards and allowed control of the surrounding valleys. This history as a watchtower shaped its long-term importance in the region.
The chapel at the summit is a traditional pilgrimage destination that local communities have visited for generations to spend time in this elevated location. The site has maintained its importance for surrounding villages as a gathering place and place of prayer.
Several marked hiking trails approach the summit from Susqueda and Sant Martí Sacalm, with the eastern route offering the most direct path. Sturdy footwear is necessary as some stretches are steep and rocky.
The mountain is included in the list of 100 Catalan peaks recognized by the FEEC mountaineering association as significant climbing objectives. This recognition makes it a sought-after destination for those collecting Catalan summits.
