Teatro María Guerrero, National theatre in Justicia, Madrid, Spain.
The Teatro María Guerrero is a theatre building with classical architecture, featuring a grand main facade from the 19th century. Inside, the main auditorium has a horseshoe shape with red velvet seating and gold accents, while a smaller hall offers space for more intimate performances.
The theatre opened in 1885 under the name Princess Theatre and was renamed in 1931 to honor Spanish actress María Guerrero. She had purchased the building and later donated it to the nation.
This theatre houses the National Drama Center, which presents Spanish and international theatrical works that draw local and visiting audiences throughout the year. The venue serves as a stage where contemporary and traditional stories come to life for those seeking live performance.
The building has two performance spaces with different capacities for various types of productions. Visitors should arrive early to view the classical interior design and architectural details before a show begins.
The ceiling of the main hall displays a large ornamental rose window made from colored crystals with gold details in a Moorish style. This intricate crafted detail creates an unexpected shimmer and sparkle throughout the space, drawing attention upward.
