Assut del Repartiment, Diversion dam in Quart de Poblet, Spain.
The Assut del Repartiment is a diversion dam along the Turia River that channels water through multiple gates into different irrigation canals. The structure directs water to eight separate channels, including Favara, Rascanya, and Rovella.
The dam was built in the 1960s as part of the Plan Sur project, which was designed to divert the Turia River and prevent flooding in Valencia. This project fundamentally reshaped water management for the entire region.
The dam reflects a traditional irrigation practice where farmers depend on a fixed weekly schedule to water their fields. This organized distribution system remains central to how agriculture operates in the area today.
The site is accessible on foot and located near Quart de Poblet village with straightforward access. Visitors should be prepared for uneven ground and should exercise caution around the water, especially during peak flow periods.
The structure earned the local name La Cassola because of its bowl-shaped design that efficiently distributes water in multiple directions. This distinctive form was a simple yet effective solution for water management at the time.
