Alqueria del Moro, Historic farmhouse in Benicalap, Spain
Alqueria del Moro is a rural estate with a two-story main building featuring Gothic windows and several connected outbuildings. The complex preserves traditional agricultural elements such as silos and bread ovens that show how the farmstead operated.
The estate was founded in the 13th century and combines architectural elements from the 14th, 16th, and 18th centuries reflecting different eras of Valencia's agricultural history. This mix of styles shows how the property was expanded and rebuilt over several centuries.
The inscriptions carved into the walls feature Latin text and military scenes that speak to its complex past. Inside, preserved reed beds show traces of the silk production that once took place here.
The building is located on Emili Camps I Gallego Street 2, just behind Benicalap Park, making it fairly easy to find. It is currently undergoing restoration work, so visitors should check ahead to confirm if tours or access are available.
The grounds include a private chapel that reflects its religious and social standing. Additionally, the original irrigation system from the Acequia de Tormos still functions, showing how closely the estate was tied to Valencia's water management network.
