Ganboa

Ganboa is a summit in the Aralar Range reaching 1,412 meters with limestone bedrock shaped by water erosion into distinctive karst patterns. The peak is topped by extensive grassland that covers much of the upper slopes before dropping away to reveal the raw rock formations below.

This summit was long believed to be the highest peak in the Aralar Range before surveys confirmed that Irumugarrieta stands taller. The discovery did not diminish its role as a popular hiking destination in the Gipuzkoa region.

The mountain plays a central role in the outdoor activities of Gipuzkoa province residents, who regularly traverse its paths for recreation and exercise.

Several marked trails connect to the summit from various trailheads, with the main route graded T2 for regular hikers seeking a moderate challenge. The grassy upper slopes are straightforward to walk, but the limestone underfoot becomes slippery when wet.

A mountaineer postbox sits at the peak where visitors leave written notes, creating a simple tradition among local climbers. This small metal box stands alone amid the open grassland, creating an unexpected human detail against the wild landscape.
