Larraitz

Larraitz is a base settlement at the foot of Mount Txindoki, standing at 409 meters and featuring stone tables, benches, and recreational spaces set within natural surroundings. The area combines these facilities with meadows and forest vegetation that frame the landscape.

The settlement grew as a base for mountaineers heading to climb Txindoki. A nearby fountain built in 1939 became a gathering place for visitors to the area.

The restaurants here showcase Basque food traditions by cooking with seasonal ingredients sourced from nearby farms and producers.

You can reach Larraitz via the GI-2.133 road branching from the N-1 highway near Alegia, with buses running regularly from Tolosa on weekdays and market days. The elevated location calls for appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes, especially if you plan to explore the surrounding area.

The landscape here blends meadows with conifer plantations and fragments of the original deciduous forest, creating ecological variety. This mix of managed and wild forest shapes how the terrain appears and changes with the seasons.
