Camp Benitez, Public park in Churriana district, Málaga, Spain
Camp Benitez is a 28-hectare public park in the Churriana district with grounds extending along the MA-21 road and Málaga-Fuengirola railway line. The space is planted with stone pines, eucalyptus trees, cypress stands, and palm trees providing plenty of green area for walking and spending time outdoors.
The site opened as a military barracks in 1928 after the city purchased the land and transferred it to the Ministry of War. The Spanish Legion occupied the grounds for over 70 years until withdrawing in 1997.
The place is named after a Spanish military officer and carries memory of its past use. Today residents use the park for walks and relaxation, with the vegetation and open space inviting people to spend time outdoors.
The park is reachable through bus stops along the MA-21 road or via Plaza Mayor and Los Alamos stations on the commuter rail line. The grounds are open to visitors and offer walking paths through different areas with both shaded spots and open spaces.
The conversion from military grounds to public park required an unusual arrangement where the city took over management of an extensive road network. This trade-off allowed the land to become accessible to the public.
