The fortress features four circular towers at its corners, thick defensive walls, and a central courtyard surrounded by Gothic architectural elements.
The castle was commissioned by the Marquis of Villena, Don Juan Pacheco, in 1458, replacing an earlier Arab fortress from the 12th century.
The castle incorporates a church of San Juan Bautista from the 18th century within its walls, merging religious and military architecture.
Visitors can explore the castle through guided tours, which include access to the parade ground and information about medieval construction techniques.
The 2016 restoration added contemporary sculptural elements and colored structures to the parade ground while preserving the original medieval walls.
