San Joaquin Castle, Military fortress in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain.
The square castle contains circular towers at each corner and features a central courtyard with bays on both sides of the structure.
Governor Juan Núñez de la Fuente ordered the construction of this fortress in 1586, with initial designs by Italian architect Leonardo Torriani.
The Spanish Ministry of National Education recorded this fortress in 1949, leading to its recognition as a cultural property in February 2000.
The castle stands between Santa Cruz de Tenerife and San Cristóbal de La Laguna, offering visitors access to both historic cities.
Two of the fortress towers served specifically for gunpowder storage, while the building later functioned as a military prison and dovecote.
