Castle of La Raya

Castle of La Raya is a medieval fortification built on a hilltop with a rectangular layout and a central tower. Defensive structures positioned at opposite corners and walls made from stone blocks and brick define its physical form.

The fortress was built in the 13th century under King Alfonso VIII and served as a strategic lookout post at the border between Castile and Aragon.

The ruins are accessible to visitors and located near the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Torre. The site sits between the towns of Monteagudo de las Vicarías and Pozuel de Ariza, making it part of a wider exploration route.

An underground passage within the fortress leads to a water cistern. This hidden structure reveals how medieval engineers managed water storage while reinforcing the defense of the settlement.
