Dolmen de Alberite

Dolmen de Alberite is a megalithic burial chamber in Villamartín with a gallery spanning around 23 meters composed of large stone blocks. The interior displays substantial stone walls structured to form a protected ceremonial space for the dead.

This structure dates back approximately 6000 years to a period when communities constructed monumental stone burial chambers. Scientific examination of the site provided researchers with insights into the burial practices and daily existence of these ancient populations.

The interior walls display painted and carved symbols representing weapons, celestial bodies, and human figures in ochre. These motifs reveal what the people who built this monument valued and believed in.

The site is walkable and allows clear viewing of the structure both from outside and within. Bringing a guide or informational materials is advisable to fully appreciate the details of the carvings and paintings throughout.

Excavations uncovered remains of two individuals whose bones were covered in red ochre alongside stone tools and a quartz crystal measuring around 20 centimeters. This distinctive burial arrangement hints at ritual and ceremonial practices tied to the beliefs of this ancient culture.
