Iglesia de San Juan Bautista

Iglesia de San Juan Bautista is a church with three naves and a central dome positioned over the crossing. The white-coated walls feature undulating architectural lines that give the interior a flowing structure.

The original building was destroyed by the 1755 earthquake and then rebuilt. Architect Pedro de San Martin designed the new structure, which Pedro de Silva completed in 1776.

The church displays Spanish Baroque features with its decorative brick portal and columned entrance. The bell tower stands out with blue and white geometric tiles that catch your eye as you approach.

You can visit the church when it is not in use for services. It is best to stop by in the early morning or late afternoon to explore the spaces without interruptions.

The left tower side shows a particular blend of Baroque elements with a stylized bell chamber. This thoughtful combination of stone and ceramic work has remained remarkably well-preserved over time.
