Iglesia de San Juan Evangelista, Religious monument in Almedina district, Almeria, Spain
The San Juan Evangelista Church features a single nave design with thick pilasters and semicircular arches spanning its interior walls.
Built in the 17th century, this church stands on the site of Almeria's former Great Mosque, which was constructed around 965 CE.
The building preserves the qibla wall and mihrab from the original mosque, displaying intricate 12th-century Almohad stucco decorations.
The church is located at Calle General Luque in central Almeria, maintaining regular hours for religious services and visits.
The main facade exhibits a Mannerist style with cushioned stonework and half-columns supporting a triangular pediment bearing Bishop Portocarrero's coat of arms.
