Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Río, Catholic hermitage church in Talaván, Spain
The Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Río stands next to the Tagus River with wooden beams supporting its single nave structure and decorated altar.
The current building, constructed in 1971, replaced an earlier hermitage that submerged under the waters of the José María de Oriol-Alcántara II reservoir.
The Renaissance statue of Virgin Mary from the 16th century holds Jesus and receives ceremonial robes donated by devoted followers throughout the year.
The church maintains regular opening hours and hosts the main patronal festivities in September, plus a pilgrimage celebration during the first weekend of May.
Parts of the original hermitage structure become visible during significant water level drops in the reservoir, revealing the submerged historical foundations.
